Tonkinese
WE HAVE DISCONTINUED OUR TONKINESE BREEDING PROGRAM AS OF 2009
I have been intrigued by the Tonkinese breed almost as long as the Scottish Folds. At the end of 2002, I was given the opportunity to welcome into my cattery, 2 very sweet, lovely, Tonk females from friends of mine in the Cat Fancy, Marge and Don Pinkoski of Sanctimonie Cattery. I then acquired a gallant, handsome male, from Dennis and Diane Hammer of Hammertime Cattery. Tonks are friendly, people-oriented cats, that love to find a lap to sit in or love to snuggle in bed. I have also found them to be more active than the Scottish Folds.
The Tonkinese breed is a cross between the Siamese and the Burmese. There are 12 coat color/pattern combinations for Tonks. They are the only cats with Aqua eyes....in the mink pattern, that is. The "mink" pattern is a combination of the Siamese and Burmese, with subtle shading between the points and body color. They also come in a "pointed" pattern which resembles the Siamese, with greater color difference between points and body color with blue eyes. Then, they also come in the "solid" pattern, which resembles the Burmese with hardly any color difference at all between points and body color, with green/yellow eyes. The coat colors are: platinum/lilac, champagne, blue, and natural/chocolate. This is a short-hair only breed.
So, if you are looking for a companion that likes to be involved in everything you do, is moderately active, and is practically maintenance-free in the grooming department, with a little of the oriental style, then the Tonkinese is the cat for you.
